The District of Columbia's Early and Periodic Screening, Diagnostic, and Treatment (EPSDT) benefit, known as HealthCheck, provides preventive primary health care for all Medicaid-eligible youth living in the District of Columbia.

The training resources on this website are intended to furnish health care providers with the tools to deliver the highest quality care to children and families, and to properly document their efforts along the way to ensure accuracy in state health statistics and continuity of federal funding.

New in 2013:
New Features & Tips to Navigate through the Curriculum Quickly

New Modules. DC Department of Health Care Finance has partnered with Georgetown University and The National Alliance to Advance Adolescent Health to develop four new modules for the HealthCheck curriculum. Take a look at the new modules:

DC HealthCheck Requirements

HealthCheck Requirements. As you proceed through the curriculum, look for boxes of information labeled "HealthCheck Requirements." This is the specific information that is required to be performed and documented during a HealthCheck visit.

The DC Medicaid HealthCheck Periodicity Schedule follows the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) health recommendations in consultation with the local medical community.

Read the November 2012 Transmittal from DHCF explaining the new DC Periodicity Schedule.

EPSDT EMRs and Required Data. Specific information must be documented for a well-child visit to count as a reimbursable HealthCheck visit. With the rapid adoption of Electronic Medical Records (EMRs) in DC's pediatric community, the challenge is to ensure that the required information needed for a complete HealthCheck visit is captured electronically.

Check out our summary page see the specific data points necessary in recording HealthCheck visits in EMRs. Note specific documentation hints in [brackets].
